5 Days - Laos Luang Prabang Adventure Tours

Day 1: Luang Prabang City Explorer (L)

In the morning we start your cycling day through this wonderful town on the Mekong. First your guide will bring you to the local morning market where you can witness the hustle and bustle of people getting their daily supplies Throughout the day, we will visit the National Museum (closed on Tuesday and Sunday afternoon), the important Wat Mai built in 1796, which exemplifies graceful Luang Prabang architecture and the glamorous Wat Xieng Thong.  You will learn about Lao history and about the various kingdoms that have made their mark on this country. For lunch, take our guides recommendations and discover some of the best restaurants in town serving authentic Lao food!

In the afternoon we proceed to the ancient Wat Visoun, which dates back to the 16th century. Another highlight of the day is visiting the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Center where you can learn about the ethnic diversity in Laos.

In the late afternoon we’ll hike up the holy stairs of Phousi Mountain to take in a spectacular sunset. The views of the countryside from the mountaintop are just wonderful, so the climb is worth it! Afterwards, we’ll head back in to town to relax. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2: Biking to an Elephant camp and Trekking

The day starts with some easy to moderate cycling, as we head out of town and enter the Laos countryside. In the Nam Khan valley, there will be many interesting sights to stop at, such as local villages, forest and waterfalls. We will have lunch at Elephant Village. After lunch, we begin trekking for ½ a day to reach our next destination – a Khmu village and you will experience everyday life and the culture of this minority hill tribe. The village is nestled at the foot of a large mountain range and is atypical of the rural lifestyle in the Laos countryside. Take your time to wander around and make new friends! Overnight in a local home.

Trekking: 3-4 hours

Day 3: Trek to Ethnic minorities Villages

Through rice paddies, bamboo forests and teak plantations, you’ll discover a whole new world in these amazing valleys. Dotted along the landscape are numerous Khmu and Hmong villages as well. Please confer with your guide, as there are different trails to hike, from easy to difficult. Depending on what you wish to experience, we can tailor your trekking day however you want! Overnight in local home.

Trekking: 4-5 hours/ 1 hour lunch
Difficulty” Easy/Moderate
Meal: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 4: Elephant ride and kayaking on Nam Khan River.

Located along the banks of the Nam Khan River, we’ll take you back to Elephant village for a ride on one of our elephants. There are also nice trails to hike on by the river. Afterwards we will take you to the amazing Tad Sea waterfalls by boat and you can swim in the clear waters. Lunch will be back in the village. To head back into the city we will take you on a 3-4 hour easy kayaking tour (grade 1-2). The scenery is sublime and there will be a few small rapids to traverse.

Even for inexperienced kayakers, this is a breeze and is an opportunity to learn more about the sport. There will be a few village stops along the way as well as a pick up service in Luang Prabang. Overnight in hotel.

Day 5: Boating to Pak Ou Cave. Departure

Heading towards the Pak Ou caves by boat, you will see more charming views of the tranquil countryside. The caves are fascinating and are crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues. Along the way, we’ll stop at the village of Ban Xanghai, where they distill local rice wine. Then if time permits we take a short drive to Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xienglek, famous for their handmade paper crafts and Tour concludes back at your hotel.
